Gastvortrag 06.05.2015-Erasing the Past, Building the Future: A Late Antique Fountain of Spolia at Aphrodisias

Diesen Mittwoch hält Prof. Dr. Esen Ogus (Texas / München) einen Vortrag zum Thema "Erasing the Past, Building the Future: A Late Antique Fountain of Spolia at Aphrodisias" im Rahmen des Forschungskolloquium um 18h c.t. im Seminarraum 165.

A tetrastyle fountain façade was excavated in 1904 at Aphrodisias in Caria, but remained unstudied till now. The fountain was built in late antiquity entirely out of spoliated material, including the pediment of a sacred building dedicated to Aphrodite. The intercolumniations were decorated with parapets representing Gigantomachy from an unknown High Imperial building. This paper shows the late antique practice of transforming ancient monuments in Asia Minor, and discusses the implications for the changing urban space and culture.

Alle sind herzlich eingeladen.
